WebEx will officially support Lion starting in our most recent software release called: WBS27.29. This release is generally available starting September 30 (although many sites have already upgraded). Earlier software versions are not compatible with Lion.
How to Find Your WebEx Software Version
Go to your WebEx site and check the User Guides page under the Support section.
The site version will be on the top right hand side of the page. If your site version is 27.29 or newer, Lion is supported. If you don't see a version, your WebEx could be hosted by a partner. If that's the case, you'll need to have your partner update their version of the software.
It Could be a Java Issue
Apple decided not to include the Java runtime environment in Lion by default so WebEx users may experience some issues when trying to join a meeting since WebEx is using Java to automatically download and install the WebEx application. You may choose to install the Java runtime environment or just install the WebEx application before joining a meeting.
If you are experiencing problems joining a meeting, try the following.
- Check to see if you have Java installed
Go Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences and open the Java Preferences app.
If Java is not installed, you will be prompted to install it.
- Here's another way to install Java
Apple provides the Java runtime environment as a separate application for Lion. Go to Apple Online Support, download the Java for OS X Lion application and follow the installation instructions. - Make sure Java is enabled
Go to Applications > Utilities > Java Preferences and open the Java Preferences app. Check that at least one Java SE is enabled.
- Make sure Java is enabled in your browser
If you’re using Safari, check that Java is enabled in the Security tab under Preferences
If you’re using Firefox, check that the Java plug-in is enabled in the Add-ons Manager
If you’re using Chrome, Java should be enabled by default - Re-install (or install) WebEx
If you already installed WebEx, we recommend you remove it and reinstall.
Go to user folder > Library > Application Support and remove WebEx Folder.
Go to user folder > Library > Internet Plug-Ins and remove the WebEx64.plugin file.
When you try to join your meeting again, the meeting application will be installed automatically if Java is installed and enabled.
- Don’t want to install Java? Install the WebEx application before joining a meeting
Go to your WebEx site and download the meeting application for Mac OS X (Intel) in the Downloads page under the Support section.
Run the downloaded package and follow the installation instructions.
Once the installation is completed successfully, you should be able to join your meeting easily and fast.
Still Having Problems?
If you are still experiencing problems joining a meeting on using the WebEx application on Lion, please call the WebEx Tech Support. Our agents will be more than happy to assist you 24/7.
I need to know if WebEx player will work on a Mac OS X Lion computer. The file we want to listen to was developed on an earlier version of WebEx recorder. I tried to use it but ran into problems. Thanks
